Mission statement
The Association for Careers in Technology is a society which represents and supports the students of UCLA while providing vehicles for integrating students into the competitive engineering and computer industry by promoting student awareness and interest in career goals and potential employers.
What is ACT?
The Association for Careers in Technology (ACT) is a nonprofit, student-run organization sponsored by the UCLA Career Center. The intention of this proactive organization is to introduce the enthusiastic students of UCLA to a competitive industry of engineering and computers. It is not a secret that companies look for more than just the four digits comprising your GPA.
That is why ACT has already established relationships with dozens of corporations across the nation, all of which are interested in students focused on engineering or computer science. ACT welcome its members to tap into this rich resource and is prepared to help them find a full-time, part-time, or even internship position. By fortifying a networking bridge between students and potential employers, this association hopes to encourage student involvement in the research and pursuit of career opportunities.
Does ACT focus only on engineering and CS companies?
Definitely not. In fact, the Association for Careers in Technology is one of the only engineering or computer science organizations on campus that does not focus solely on engineering or computer firms. We realize that countless opportunities lie in the various aspects of a corporation.
For example, ACT is closely affiliated with various consulting and accounting firms which are very excited about engineering and computer science majors. Conversely, this organization is also associated with hi-tech firms that are interested in students who concentrate on business, medicine, or even art. The multifaceted aspirations of this organization reflect our contention that there are innumerable opportunities in any firm of any field.
How can ACT help me find a career?
The Association for Careers in Technology will be busy organizing activities and keeping its members posted on job opportunities as well as rising companies. The following are just some of the benefits and services the Association for Careers in Technology would like to extend to the students of UCLA.
How can I submit a resume to ACT?
The ACT resume CD consists of resumes of all ACT members and is distributed to a vast number of companies around the world, including our Corporate Sponsors. You may submit your resume to any of the ACT officers at any of the events or drop it in ACT box at the UCLA Career Center (the ACT box is right in front as you walk in). All resumes must be limited to one page.
Corporate sponsored events
Representatives and recruiters from a prominent corporation are invited to speak about their company, its success and the industry in which it competes. There will also be a discussion about career and job opportunities with that firm. This is a wonderful chance for you to network with the representatives and recruiters from some of the nation's most lucrative companies.
Corporate industry nights
This event is similar to a Corporate Sponsored Event except several companies specializing in a common field are invited to entertain the students with the success of their firms and the secrets of their industry. This is also an excellent opportunity to interface with representatives and recruiters who are excited about hiring UCLA students.
Resume CD
A resume cd comprised of all ACT members is distributed to a legion of companies inside and outside of California.
E-mail list
Members of ACT who are included on an e-mail list are kept up-to-date with upcoming events, current job opportunities, and general information about expanding corporations.
